Dentists and dental practitioners are in an optimal setting to deliver tobacco cessation treatment.  A webinar series, "Essential Knowledge and Skills for Tobacco Dependence Treatment in Dental Practice", was developed specifically for dental practitioners to be able to provide practical knowledge and skills around tobacco cessation interventions.
 
There are two sessions that can be taken as stand-alone sessions, or consecutively:
 
Session 1: Oral Effects of Tobacco Use - 2016 Webinar

  1. Relate research evidence to clinical practice implications in dentistry.
  2. Address tobacco use with patients in an engaging and non-confrontational way.
  3. Access additional resources on tobacco dependence treatment interventions.
 
Session 2: Pharmacotherapy for Tobacco Dependence Treatment - 2016 Webinar

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
  1. Identify the types of pharmacotherapy available in Canada for tobacco cessation. 
  2. Apply an algorithm to help determine when and how to recommend pharmacotherapy for ​varying levels of tobacco use among patients
  3. Discuss the risks and benefits of pharmacotherapy with patients based on best evidence
